The Coiltek Regulated system was designed many years ago. It has been made to improve the voltage provided to the detector and reduce the weight of the old style ‘GELL CELL’ battery. It only suits the Minelab SD series and GP series of detectors.
The theory behind this system was that with a higher voltage, some detectors would output a greater magnetic field which therefore meant more sensitivity and depth. This was true with the SD series of detectors from Minelab. The increase from 6volts to 7.3volts was enough to keep the detector running smooth and improve the coils ability. However, 7.3volts is certainly the highest safe voltage that we recommend for the SD series. For the GP series of detectors, we have set a voltage of 6.7volts as these newer models have inbuilt regulators already limiting the voltage.
What was also experienced by many users of this system was the reduction of an unstable threshold, especially when the old Gell cell battery was nearing low voltage. By regulating the input voltage to the detector we can ‘clean-up’ any voltage variances experienced which can minimize any unusual instability.
The regulator cradles’ features include:
- 3 position switch – 7.3v / OFF / 6.7v for use on SD’s and GP models
- Switch guard – to prevent and accidental bumps of the power switch
- Inbuilt ¼ inch headphone jack
- Durable ABS lightweight plastic enclosure
- Already attached battery mount with LED for low voltage indication
Included in the kit, you will receive the following:
- Switchable Regulator cradle
- Custom made Camo pouch with metal belt clip for easy positioning
- 240v mains and 12v Car charger
- 1 Li-Ion 7.4volt, 6000mAhr battery to suit (Model: NP-F960) (dual battery kit also available)
This unit comes with a 12month warranty (battery is 6 months) and is the preferred after-market battery system for the SD & GP Detectors. The unit weighs in at around 500 grams (compared to 2000grams for the Gell Cell battery) and this includes the cradle, battery and pouch.
We also can provide a short power lead which will enable you to mount the unit on your control box cover on the side of your control box so you can eliminate the power lead hanging to your back-pack. It is a very versatile little unit and has earned the nickname ‘The Pocket Rocket’.
